Tucked beyond the paved roads of the Outer Banks, Chesapeake Event Home offers a setting unlike almost anywhere else along the coast. Reaching the home requires traveling through Carova’s 4x4 area, where the landscape quickly becomes wilder and more untouched. Wild Spanish mustangs wander through the dunes, the beach stretches for miles, and the pace of the day feels naturally removed from the rest of the world.

For this Laura & Ian, that setting became the backdrop for a wedding inspired by the understated elegance of old New England.

Rather than leaning into a traditional coastal aesthetic, the design was built around deep walnut and dark wood tones, ivory, silver, crystal, and classic details that felt collected rather than overly decorated. The result was sophisticated and intimate, with the feeling of a beautiful New England home translated into a destination wedding on the Outer Banks.

And then there are the horses.

The wild Spanish mustangs that roam Carova have been part of the landscape for centuries, and encountering them throughout the wedding weekend adds an element that simply cannot be recreated elsewhere. They are part of what makes a Carova wedding feel so distinctly connected to the history and character of the Outer Banks.

For a wedding with such a refined design aesthetic, the wildness of the surrounding landscape created an especially beautiful contrast.

After spending the day surrounded by beautiful details, the couple's portraits shifted into something much more organic. For me, this is one of the most rewarding parts of photographing a wedding in Carova. The setting does so much of the work.

The wedding design was sophisticated and deeply considered, with a visual language inspired by old New England homes and inherited pieces: dark walnut, ivory, silver, crystal, orchids, linen, and classic styling.

But the celebration never felt disconnected from Carova.

Outside the windows were wild horses and shifting dunes. On the beach, the couple's portraits were relaxed and organic. The natural landscape provided a counterpoint to the refinement of the interiors, creating a wedding gallery that feels varied, personal, and distinctly tied to the Outer Banks.

That contrast is part of what makes destination weddings in Carova so special.
